McKINNEY, Texas (Jan. 03, 2017) – Methodist McKinney Hospital, an award-winning facility recognized for its superior clinical and business performance, recently announced its designation as a Cigna Center of Excellence (COE) in Joint Replacement. This standout endorsement is given to hospitals achieving the highest ratings in both patient outcomes and cost efficiency, according to Cigna’s annual evaluation measures.

“Our surgeons strive every day to provide their patients with the greatest possible care, from their first consultation to their final follow-up, and that is why they choose Methodist McKinney Hospital for their joint replacement procedures,” said hospital president Joe Minissale. “We are very proud to be a Center of Excellence in Joint Replacement—our program, and the orthopedic specialists who manage it, is absolutely second to none and demonstrates utmost commitment to our patients every step of the way.”

When evaluating a potential COE, Cigna assesses clinical effectiveness in treating a patient’s specific condition and also the hospital’s costs for associated procedures when compared to the national average.  Methodist McKinney Hospital received Cigna’s COE designation by earning five stars in both Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement surgeries. While the overall score is weighted toward patient outcomes, top-rated cost efficiency is required for a cumulative five stars.

“The COE evaluation process is part of what makes Cigna an incredible patient advocate,” said Minissale. “Their evaluation methodology and eventual recognition are not only an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication put forth by our team, in every capacity of our hospital, they are a comprehensive guide in helping patients choose high-quality, cost-effective care.”

The joint replacement program at Methodist McKinney Hospital, which offers total and partial replacement of knee, hip and shoulder joints, follows stringent clinical protocols to ensure quality outcomes and complete satisfaction. After initial consultation, patients and a family member are invited to a Joint Replacement Class where a nurse navigator ensures they are fully prepared for the procedure; hospital leaders have said that patient education is key to positive outcomes. Methodist McKinney Hospital is one of the few north Texas facilities to offer robotics-assisted joint replacement procedures.
