Methodist McKinney Hospital is proud to recognize Chef Erika Hawkins for her recent culinary accomplishments. Chef Hawkins joined the Methodist McKinney Hospital team after graduating from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in April 2012. It was immediately noticeable that she had a passion to be a culinary leader. After a brief stint as the patient chef, her extraordinary culinary and leadership skills became evident, resulting in a promotion to Culinary Supervisor. Chef Hawkins’ ability to create foods from scratch that are alive with flavor and nutrition has delighted the palates of our patients, staff, and guests. Her promotion brought the opportunity to take the Certified Executive Chef written test & practical (accredited thru the American Culinary Federation) – which she scored in the top 95th percentile. As a result of her high score, she was chosen to compete in the Morrison Healthcare Food Service/ Dr Pepper Iron Chef regional competition on January 30th in Dallas. Chef Hawkins astounded the judges and spectators as she prepared her culinary masterpiece (see picture). Needless to say, she swept the competition and took home first place. This achievement has qualified Chef Hawkins to compete in the Morrison Healthcare Food Service/Dr Pepper Iron Chef Competition division finals that will be held in March of this year. Methodist McKinney Hospital feels honored to have Chef Hawkins as part of our team and look forward with anticipation to see what this creative young talent is going to cook up next.

Methodist McKinney's CNO, Staci Jones, Influencing leadership on Hospital Impact's Blog
Using OR efficiency to improve customer, staff satisfaction
In today's fast-paced,cutting-edge healthcare climate, hospitals must provide an operating room environment that meets the demands of the surgeons and customers, while at the same time providing excellent care and outcomes. Our community-based surgical hospital has successfully met this challenge through efficiency strategies and solutions.
Historically, hospital operating rooms are stereotyped as slow, delayed and stringent. In contrast, Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) evolved as prompt, flexible and accommodating. So the hospital leadership established the motto "Run like an ASC!" To accomplish this task, our staff focused on efficiency processes, then developed goals and strategies for success.
